All you need to know about a Pleasure House Point

Have you heard about this place yet? Maybe your friend or colleague had their pictures taken there. Pleasure House Point Natural Area aka Brock Environmental Center is #1 location for almost any kind of session here in Virginia Beach. Why it might be the perfect match for your shoot and why it might not? And what you should know before you book your session there? Let’s dive straight into it!

7 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PLEASURE HOUSE POINT IN VIRGINIA BEACH,VA.

  • The unique environment of Pleasure House Natural Area.

Are you looking for a beachy vibe minus the strong winds or tourist sunbathing all around? Then this is your gem. It’s a perfect mixture of beach and greenery. There are plenty of sandy paths, even small beaches with marshy backgrounds. On the other hand there is a lof of greenery that filters the sunset light and adds some depth. You will find beautiful natural tall grass that looks so gorgeous best on photos.

  • It’s accessible.

It’s very possible that you won’t have to drive more than 30minutes to get to such a special location if you live in Va Beach or around. The natural area is located just off Shore drive close to the Lesner bridge. Easy to find and easily accessible. BUT there is a very small parking lot and as said it above, this is a popular location. The parking gets full every day during the golden hour so make sure you arrive early, you might need to park in the surrounding neighborhoods.

  • It’s busy.

I know I said it before but it gets busy here with photographers! Especially on the weekends! I remember taking pictures of a family and after 15 minutes I turn finally around and there are at least 10 groups of other photographers and their clients. I was shocked how quickly so many people popped up everywhere. :) Even though photographers do respect each other (the nice ones:) and give each other as much space as possible. If you are looking for more unique and private location you might want to avoid Pleasure House.

  • Be respectful.

The whole natural area is protected, just like any natural area should be. You need to stay on the paths or at the designated areas. Never ever use any confetti etc. in hopes of epic gender reveal picture. Please never use any of these in general, they are not compostable and pollute our Earth.

  • It looks great all year round.

And this might be the best part! It’s hard to find a beautiful location in winter! But thanks to its’ sandy paths, brown/yellow grass and pine trees this location might be even more beautiful in fall and winter than in summer!

  • There are NO bathrooms.

This can be an issue especially if you are having a maternity session! :) The closest bathroom can be found on Shore drive at a gas station or some restaurant etc.

  • What to wear for a session at Pleasure House Point.

Just like for any other location, I recommend earth tones, flowy dresses, add one pattern, layers and different fabrics. I have to admit that especially here the khaki, pastel colors, beige, natural tones, whites and dark greens look amazing! The best part? You do not need any shoes because, as I said before, this place is full of sand and we will be walking down the sandy paths towards a beach.
